CBS announced this in early 2016, with the cast being formed toward the end. Though we do not yet know the full cast, we do know that The Walking Dead star Sonequa Martin-Green is set to lead the show, with Doug Jones, Michelle Yeoh, and Anthony Rapp also starring. Per Comicbook.com, we now know that Star Trek: Discovery is set to begin filming this month!
Star Trek: Discovery is named after the USS Discovery, which previously appeared in the Star Trek series. While being interviewed for the TCAs, showrunner Bryan Fuller stated, “There’s an incident and event in Star Trek history that’s been talked about but never been explored. To do this series, we’re telling a much more serialized story, to dig deep into a very tantalizing arc. And we have a character who’s on a journey, and in order to understand something that is alien she first has to understand herself.”
We certainly look forward to seeing the rest of the cast form and the show come together. We will let you know any new developments as they come!
Star Trek: Discovery is set to air in May 2017 on CBS. Following episodes will air on CBS All Access in the United States, with Netflix and other streaming services airing the show globally thereafter.
