Fantastic Beast 2: Zoë Kravitz Says Film Will Expand on Newt and Leta’s ‘Complicated Relationship’

Harry Potter fans were reintroduced into the Wizarding World last November with Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them. The film’s lead Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) was shown as a reclusive and somewhat socially awkward individual. Even so, it was also shown that Newt had clearly been in some sort of relationship with a woman named Leta Lestrange (not to be confused with the vile Bellatrix Lestrange from the Harry Potter films, who’s of the same lineage).

Leta was played very briefly by Zoë Kravitz in Fantastic Beast, and we say briefly because her character had no lines, and she had less than 5 minutes of screen time. However in a recent interview with Collider, Kravitz confirmed that her character would be getting more screen time in the sequel, and that the teased relationship between Newt and Leta would be further explored:

“The relationship between Leta and Newt Scamander is a complex relationship, so I think there will be a lot of time for that to grow and develop, which will be fun… I know nothing! I have an idea, based off of when I auditioned, but I know nothing. Even when I went to go do my chemistry read with Eddie, he was trying to help me piece together what was happening in the scene that we were reading.”

So either Kravitz is playing coy, or she truly has no idea what’s going on with the sequel. Either way, we’re excited to see that “complicated relationship” between the two characters be expanded upon. And we’re seriously praying that she gets a bigger scene than that moving image from the first one. Like seriously.
