Will Smith May Join Tim Burton’s Live-Action Dumbo Film

After taking on the role of Deadshot for DC’s Suicide Squad and the massive box office failure Collateral Beauty, Will Smith appears to be taking on new things in 2017.

According to Comicbook.com, Smith is currently in talks to star in Tim Burton’s live-action re-imagining of the Disney film Dumbo. Burton is set to be directing this project with Will Smith being the first actor definitively involved. Disney has already released live-action versions of Cinderella, Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast (set to release in March of this year). Pinnochio, The Little Mermaid, and The Lion King are also said to be in the pipeline for live-action adaptation.

Tim Burton is no stranger to Disney, having previously directed such projects as Alice in Wonderland, Alice Through the Looking Glass, and, most famously, The Nightmare Before Christmas. Burton is known for his unique style in his films, and Smith’s addition to Dumbo is sure to provide a refreshing take on the project.

Smith’s involvement in the project is still to be confirmed as his involvement in Bad Boys 3 and a solo Deadshot film may provide a scheduling conflict. If confirmed, this will mark a new direction for Smith and his career.

We will update you on this as more information becomes available.
