FX’s Atlanta delayed to 2018
FX’s Atlanta was one of the biggest hits last year, both with critics and viewers. Led by creator-writer-lead actor Donald Glover, Atlanta has received high praise, recently nabbing two Golden Globe awards, Writers Guild of America and Directors Guild of America nominations.
However, fans of the show will have to wait for awhile before the second season comes–two years to be exact. Reports from The Hollywood Reporter and Collider have surfaced today, announcing that Atlanta will not be returning until 2018 due to Donald Glover’s role in the upcoming Star Wars Han Solo standalone film. Glover is set to play Lando Calrissian for the still untitled standalone film, which will begin filming February of this year.
But that doesn’t mean that Glover is done with FX.
In a press release, FX’s Nick Grad has said that “Donald is a remarkable artist, effortlessly shifting from actor to writer, producer, director and musician to create one amazing project after another. Atlanta was just the beginning, the breakout comedy of the year and a series revered as much for its originality as it’s honest look at the experience of being aspiring, young and black in that legendary city. We’re proud to partner with Donald in an overall deal that will allow him to continue turning his creative vision into incredible television.”
