Miles Morales Appears to be the Lead Character in Animated Spider-Man Film

By Okon Essien

Back at San Diego Comic Con this summer, it was announced that an animated Spider-Man film was in development. All we knew about it was that Sony was producing it (of course), and it was rumored to feature Miles Morales’ Spider-Man as opposed to Peter Parker as the main character.  Then a few months passed and we heard…nothing. Looks like things are changing though.

Backstage (hat tip to CBM) has posted a casting call on their website for an animated Sony film, code named “Cabin Fever,” hat has now been revealed as the aforementioned Spider-Man film. The casting call is looking for two actors to play the characters of “Terence and Pete.” Check it out below:

(Lead) Terrence: a young African-American/Puerto Rican teen from Brooklyn; he is new to this suburban school and now feeling out of place, overwhelmed, pressured with new responsibilities, and dealing with puberty; while trying to fit in he must do his best to stay out of trouble; along the way in developing his identity he’s losing old friends but now making a new one, Pete.

(Supporting) Pete: a young, slightly geeky, Asian-American teen; he’s smart, sweet, and encouraging; although very unlike any of the friends Terrence had in his old Brooklyn neighborhood, Pete proves to be a good fit for Terrence making good decisions.

If that doesn’t sound like Miles Morales and his friend Ganke Lee, then i just don’t know. It looks like they tried to trip us up by using the name “Pete,” but it’s pretty clear that Miles Morales is the star here.

While we would love to see Miles Morales’ Spider-Man in a live-action film, this will have to do for now. We’re happy that his character is getting more recognition. We can only hope that Donald Glover returns to voice him in the animated film.
