CBS’s Star Trek: Discovery has cast their first trio of Klingons!
Today, CBS has announced that Chris Obi, Mary Chieffo and Shazad Latif will be cast as the first Klingons for the network’s much-anticipated television series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Obi (who can also be seen next year in Starz’s upcoming drama, American Gods) will play T’Kuvma, the Klingon leader whose goal is to unite Klingon houses. Latif (best known for his role as Penny Dreadful’s Dr. Jekyll) will play Kol, the commanding officer of the Klingons and protégé of T’Kuvma. Additionally, television newcomer Chieffo will portray L’Rell, a battle deck commander of the Klingon ship.
Obi, Chieffo and Latif will be joining Michelle Yeoh, Doug Jones and Anthony Rapp, who has been announced to play Han Bo, Lt. Saru and Lt. Stamets respectively. Little else is known about the newest Star Trek adaptation in CBS, but what we do know is that it will be one of the pioneering shows that will be part of the network’s new online-only viewing format.
Star Trek: Discovery is set to premiere in May 2017 on CBS. The premiere and its future episodes set to be streamed exclusively on CBS All Access.
